HOLIDAY SPIRIT

As we find that the holidays are upon us, it is a great time to take the opportunity to look back at the year behind us and plan for the year ahead. As nurses, and healthcare providers we are reminded of all the patient, co-worker and peer relationships that developed during the past year. Let us hope that all of our memories are those that give us pride in the past and confidence for the future.
I remember back when I was a new nurse, I was working the night shift, float pool. I literally had a bad stomach ache every night on the way to work. Sometimes I would find my self in the post-partum ward, the step down surgical ICU or the newborn infant ward, I never knew where I would end up. Back then it was one stop shopping when it came to putting a new nurse in the float pool. Sometimes I would just pray that I would make it through the night. How did I survive this? I did start praying, all the way to work I would pray for the knowledge, the skills, and the confidence to make it through the shift. All the way home I prayed and thanked God for helping me to guard and care for my patients.
I did make it and learned so much in the process. Now when I look back I can thank the Lord that the relationships I built with my patients and my co-workers were and are still very special and valuable to me.
I learned early on that you have only one chance to make a first impression. Our patients expect that we are going to give them excellent, quality care. I hope that as we move forward into the New Year, that we can all look forward to a New Year in which we can truly be proud of the relationships that we developed with our patients and our peers.
HealthPro is looking forward to a New Year that promises us growth both personally and professionally. We hope that all who read this blog will share stories about growth opportunities both personal and professional that have impacted your lives. We hope that you have a great Christmas Holiday and a Wonderful, fulfilling New Year.....
